To celebrate the launch of the newest brand to the Homecamp team, House of Darwin, we sat down with the brands founder Shaun Edwards, to chat about his journey and the awesome work the team are doing up in the NT.
Tell us a bit about House of Darwin and the journey of how it started
House of Darwin is a social enterprise with a purpose. We’re a for-profit brand driven by a call to give back to remote Indigenous communities. We initiate social programs that inspire and educate, to create change within the two worlds of Australia. We’re about 2 years old and we started by entering the Darwin Street Art festival and doing a mural with long time collaborator Luna Tunes.
What gets you up in the morning?
The ambition to create something new and fun that drives a conversation and social impact within my home – the Northern Territory.
Tell us more about the social impact projects you’re working on, and how House of Darwin supports Indigenous communities.
In 2022 House of Darwin launched Hoop Dreams. An initiative focused on refurbishing basketball courts located in the remote communities of the Northern Territory.
Basketball courts are a platform for health, dance, and wellbeing for the wider community. A central point that’s vital in bringing people together. We’re really fortunate to have just completed a beautiful court refurbishment on Yolngu country in East Arnhem Land.

Favourite way to enjoy the outdoors?
In my trusty Toyota Landcruiser – I love packing the car for the weekend and heading as remote as humanly possible 🙂
Most recent adventure?
I’ve spent a fair bit of this year travelling to West Arnhem land to a outstation called Wiligi.
Coffee – how do you take it?
Ice Latte with Oat milk in the wet season then a flat white in the dry season.
Best camping-fail story?
Getting bogged near croc infested waters and having to sleep on the roof of my car with the tide only 1-2m away during pitch darkness wasn’t ideal hahah
Mantra for living the good life?
Good humans usually means a good time. If you find them – hold on for dear life 🙂
