Long gone are the days when ‘recycled’ meant a daggy product that looked and felt secondhand. Today innovative brands are making modern and stylish products from materials otherwise destined for landfill – meet our new favourite recyclers, Seljak Brand.
Founded by sisters, Samantha and Karine Seljak, the brand evolved from a dream of a world without waste. A world where manufacturing processes were closed loop and products could be recreated at the end of their lifecycle – their beautiful merino wool blankets are the product of their dream coming true.
Made entirely from factory offcuts from the oldest wool mill in Australia, Seljak blankets regenerate production waste that would normally go to landfill. This unique process gives the blankets a beautiful speckled appearance, where flecks of different wools show the unique combination of offcuts which make each blanket.
And the coolest part of this whole process? Seljak blankets can be shredded and re-made an infinite number of times, and Samantha and Karina have made sure it’s easy for this to happen. Say, in 20 years or so, your beautiful Seljak blanket has become tired and worn from too many adventures and snuggles, so you decide that it’s time for it to go, Seljak will collect your blanket free of charge via their carbon neutral courier service (Sendle) and take it back to the mill to shred and turn into a brand new blanket for someone else! Brilliant!
Of course, that’s if you do ever want to part with your blanket – which we doubt you will.
Seljak has shown us that recycled can be sleek, modern and beautiful. We hope they expand their range to other products too – recycled merino wool jumper, anyone?!
