The Fenby Foldaway….hours, days and weeks were spent getting this chair right. But, and we know you will agree, it has been worth it. We love ours so much that they are not just used on camping trips but also used to watch the sunset from the garden, reading on the deck and truth be told one has even made its way into the living room. Like with all good things it pays to treat them with the respect and care they deserve so here are some easy-to-follow tips to get the best out of your Fenby.
Storing and cleaning
The Fenby Chair is perfect for use indoors and out. We advise taking care of your chair and storing it in its canvas bag, in a dry, low-humidity environment when not in use.
The Fenby Chair can be cleaned with mild soap and a soft brush and then air-dried naturally. Take particular care to remove any sand or dirt from the feet of the chair.
The chair sling can be hand washed using a mild detergent and cold water.
Further protection:
We want to help you to maximise the life span of your chair and encourage you to store it in its canvas bag when not in use. Like any other natural product, please be aware that persistent exposure to humidity, extreme UV and saltwater environments will eventually cause damage and premature weathering of your chair.
The Fenby Chair has been lightly oiled to give the wood a natural appearance which is perfect for most uses (garden, around the house, camping) however for constant use outdoors, consider recoating your chair periodically with Danish Oil or even better, Hardwax Oil (we recommend Whittle Wax Evolution Matte – 100ml sample bottle is plenty for two coats). This is the ‘best of both worlds’ in terms of finish and protection.
Simply clean the wood surface, dry, then give the surface a light sanding if needed and wipe on a thin coat of oil to finish.
If you need even more protection, then consider a Polyurethane based coatings but please note that this will change the appearance of the wood.
With these simple maintenance instructions, your chair should be in service for many years.
