Like most tools, axes and knives require some maintenance to keep them in good working order. In particular, tools made from high carbon steel need special attention as there is more potential for corrosion and oxidisation than stainless steel.

Method:

• Ensure your blade is completely dry using a paper towel
• Clean excess grime from your blade with a damp cloth
• If you have rust spots use white vinegar solution (or another reliable rust remover – wD40 works well) and steel wool or a wire brush to remove 
• Dry your blade
• Use a paper towel or your fingers to rub a few drops (more depending on blade size) on the surface of the blade
• Leave to dry in a sunny area 
• Use a paper towel to remove any excess oil 

You can use this same process on knives, axes, hatchets or any tool that is made from high carbon steel.
