The Weekend Roadtrip

There’s nothing like the feeling of wrapping up the work week knowing you have a weekend away ahead of you. The excitement of packing the car, coordinating meeting points with friends and finally setting off, leaving the concrete jungle behind you. Just two days away from the city can be so recharging after a stressful week. 

Melbourne photographer and van adventurer, Tom Blanche, headed off on one of these weekend adventures recently. This was his journey.

I think the road is very addictive, I don’t have to sit at home for very long until I’m pining to get amongst nature with my friends and enjoy a few nights around the fire with a bunch of interesting vans and even more interesting people. I went to the effort of taking a 30 minute scenic detour through the Yarra Valley on the way to Nagambie for this trip.
Our Melbourne Vanlife trips are coordinated without structure. We want to get away from structure and conventional living and allow our shoulders to drop as we connect with each other and embrace the self sustainability of Vanlife.

 

Between cutting wood for the fire and cooking meals in our small vans or over hot coals, we find time for supplies runs into the nearest town, time to play with the dogs, and for some of us, even a sneaky trip to a local winery for lunch.

Our small van family grows with each of our big trips and the bonds we already have strengthen. I went into the group not knowing anyone a few months ago, but its so easy to make friends with people you inevitably have so much in common with.

The trip was unfortunately cut a little short due to some unpredicted rain which forced us inside the vans and under the awnings, but it wont be long until our heels start itching and we plan another trip.
