The beauty of camping is in its simplicity; stripping away the material excess and enjoying the great outdoors. In saying that, many of us have trinkets and special pieces that remind us of home and evoke a feeling of happiness, familiarity and love – so why shouldn’t we take these things away with us? For many of us our experience of camping will be that much sweeter when we’re not only surrounded by stunning scenery, but by a beautiful set-up as well.
Stylist Lucy Ewing took our Under Sky Tent away for the weekend and has shared with us some of her tips for creating a beautiful space while you’re away.
- Lay down rugs or throws both inside and out the front of the tent to create warmth and a homely vibe. Placing a mat, blanket or rug outside the tent opens up your living space and creates the perfect place to relax and lay in the sun.
- Bring lights! There are so many amazing solar or battery powered lights that you can simply find at your local hardware store. When possible string up fairy lights outside of your tent. If you don’t have a tree to attach them you can use bamboo poles, garden stakes and zip ties to peg into the ground and string the lights to. It’s so magical to sit under the stars with nothing but the glow of fairy lights, a few candles and a fire. I also always pack some fairy lights for inside the tent. They are so light to carry, barely use any power and make the tent feel so special and a little bit luxe.
- Lanterns or candles also create such a nice vibe both inside and outside of the tent. Lanterns are especially useful as they’ll protect the candle from blowing out in the wind.
- Use a basket, trunk, or suitcase to store all of your clothes and belongings in to keep the tent organised whilst your camping. I used an old trunk which doubled up as the perfect bedside table for my journals, books and trinkets.
- If you’re going for more of a glamping weekend away and it’s possible – bring your mattress! Put the mattress towards the back of the tent so you can use the front area as a living space. My queen sized bed fit in the tent and was so comfortable! I also bought the pillows from my bed and some of my favourite sheets and blankets with me to stay snuggly in the night although the tent was really well insulated so wasn’t cold in the night at all.
- Bring a few of your favourite trinkets to style your tent and make it the perfect little home away from home. I bought along some of my favourite crystals and a brass cup I could use as a vase, which I filled with blue eucalyptus I found at the camp site. The tent looked so beautiful and felt so intimate and relaxing. I could have stayed for weeks!
