Backcountry Stove Assembly
- Unfold the stove and pull the sides outwards so the bottom plate locks into place.
- Insert the trivets through the slots for stability, or lower them to support a spirit burner.
- Place the grill plate on top of the stove for direct cooking.
Lighting a Fire with the Ferro Rod and Striker
- Practice using the Homecamp Ferro Rod and Striker before taking it into the outdoors.
- Prepare dry tinder (e.g., wood shavings, dry grass) to help ignite the fire.
- Strike the ferro rod with the striker close to the fuel until the tinder catches a spark.
- Transfer the ignited tinder into the stove.
- Add larger fuel gradually to build a stable fire.
Tips for Efficient Use
- Ensure proper airflow inside the stove by spacing the fuel appropriately.
- Maintain a consistent fuel supply to keep the fire steady.
- Experiment with alternative fuels, such as wood pellets, BBQ charcoal, or a spirit burner.
Care and Maintenance
- Keep the stove clean and dry by using a soft brush or cloth.
- Patina (normal oxidation) may develop from extreme heat but won’t affect performance.
- If rust appears, clean it with a soft cloth and a baking soda solution.
Safety Guidelines
- Use the stove responsibly, considering fire hazards and weather conditions.
- Never leave a fire unattended, and always keep water nearby.
- Wear fireproof gloves when handling the hot stove.
- Exercise caution in windy or dry conditions to prevent accidental fires.
- Set the stove up on a flat, cleared surface, away from children and pets.
- Allow the stove to cool completely before packing it away.
Heat Guidelines and Usage Warnings
The Backcountry Stove is constructed from 1mm stainless steel, designed for portability and durability. However, excessive heat can damage the stove. Please follow these guidelines to extend its lifespan:
- Avoid high-intensity fires (such as large campfires or sustained use with hardwoods) that can overheat the metal.
- Recommended fuels: Wood pellets, BBQ charcoal, or small to medium-sized sticks are ideal.
- Do not use chemical fire starters or accelerants that could produce excessively high temperatures.
- Aim to keep the flame low to moderate to prevent warping or burn-through of the steel.
- If using a spirit burner, place it in the lower trivet setting for stable and controlled heat.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 600°C (1112°F), as stainless steel can warp or weaken at these levels.
