Description
Why camp ugly?
Introducing the Homecamp A-Frame, a classic look with simplicity and functionality at its core. It’s no secret that we love to modernise classic tents using updated materials and contemporary design twists, and the Homecamp A-Frame is another example of a vintage tent that we think deserves a design overhaul and camping revival.
The key to this tent is simplicity. You won’t need a twenty-page instruction manual and a degree in engineering to erect it. It’s straightforward, practical and looks the goods in stark contrast to many other ugly tents on the market.
The Homecamp A-Frame can be pitched in minutes, providing a cosy camping shelter that you can be proud of. This is a true three-person tent, roomy enough to stretch out in, with plenty of space for your gear, but is compact enough to pack away easily in any car boot. Need more space? There are plenty of options to expand the A-Frame with additional add-ons (see below).
The details
The A-Frame is made from Homecamp’s signature midweight canvas that is treated to be UV, water, mould and fire resistant (ready for hot tenting – see A-Frame Shelter below). We have also double-stitched the seams, gussets, and all stress points for extra durability.
It features an ultra heavy-duty rip-stop vinyl floor that is completely waterproof and shaped into a ‘bucket’ with a 3-inch wall. This extremely durable floor is thick enough that it won’t be penetrated by even the roughest of ground underfoot.
The tent frame is made from strong, lightweight hard-anodised aluminium poles. We’ve gone and added a horizontal ridge pole that connects the two vertical poles, ensuring your tent looks the business in all weather conditions and doesn’t sag.
Keep the breeze flowing
The A-Frame has two doors at either end, designed for easy access and to allow for extra light and airflow. Both doors have separate mesh screens which can be zipped into place to keep bugs out and the breeze flowing. Having two doors means the tent has the ultimate ventilated system with different configurations – i.e. one door open, the other door half open to let the airflow. There are also two large side windows that have mesh protection for additional airflow.
The ultimate in versatility
We designed the A-Frame to be modular so that the tent could be expanded to include separate shaded living areas, making it an incredibly versatile tent. Awesome for different types of camping experiences, from a quick ‘touring’ setup to more leisurely stays.
Looking for extra space? The A-Frame Shelter extends your tent footprint and provides an extra indoor/outdoor bedroom (perfect for a swag or two). We recommend using it as a shaded zone, cooking annex or storage area to keep your gear protected.
The A-Frame Shelter also has a stove ‘jack’ that can be used for the exit point of a wood fire stove flue. We love this cooking and chilling by the fire set-up.
The A-Frame Awning is a simplified shade structure that can be easily attached to the A-Frame tent entrance giving you another option for a shaded outdoor space. The sides can be configured in multiple ways to shelter from the prevailing wind or intense sunlight. The A-Frame Awning can be used as a stand-alone tarp shade at camp or on the beach.
Parts matter
Poles and pegs each have their own bag that packs away snugly into the main tent bag. There is an attachable pocket that can hang from the ridge pole and we have included a separate velcro loop so you can hang a lantern too. There is another pocket for valuables sewn into the seam near one of the doors.
We use custom-made reflective 440 Paracord guy rope with easy-to-use metal tensioners that will not break. The tent has stainless steel D rings for the groundsheet pegs and custom-made Homecamp buckles and toggles. Our mosquito mesh is heavy-duty and won’t rip easily (a major failing in most other tents).
We do all of this because we don’t like the wasteful ‘return and replace’ cycle of poorly made products that ultimately add to landfill. Like the rest of our range, with the right care, the A-Frame tent is built to last the distance and will see you proud for many seasons to come.
A note on materials
When choosing a tent, there are various factors to weigh. While size and weight are important, the choice of materials is equally essential. Understanding the differences between cotton-based canvas and synthetic materials is key. The trade-offs encompass weight, strength, maintenance (i.e. propensity for mould, sun damage etc), and breathability (condensation).
